Lorem Ipsum is an interactive Internet-of-Things-installation that allows data travelers from all over the world to send me pictures and news directly to the desktop.
It brings up the question of how we communicate these days online. You're always connected, reachable by anonymous people. And how do people communicate, when they know their message will be delivered directly to the desk of someone they don't even know? What are they going to say, when there is no way for the receipient to answer or even know who sent the message? How many messages get lost because some other person updates Lorem Ipsum just one second later and what kind of ideas went down the electric drain this way?
On the hardware side Lorem Ipsum is based on a 8x8 LED matrix, an Arduino microcontroller and an ethernet module, all of which are housed in an IKEA RIBBA picture frame. By an IPv6 internet connection Lorem Ipsum is globally accessible directly from the internet. The unit is controlled via UDP packets. Either text or images can be sent as payload.
One way text and images to be transferred to Lorem Ipsum is the web interface, which is located on this server to provide the user a fast and convenient representation. After sending the text or image, the web interface handles the conversion to the correct data format and transmits the text or image via IPv6 directly to Lorem Ipsum.
